Fantastic restaurant. The best Japanese food I have had. The attention to detail was amazing. It is a small and very beautiful restaurant. We had sashimi and sushi primarily. The salmon teriyaki was the best I have ever had, cooked over charcoal.

I paid a visit to Tokyo Izakaya today, and overall, it was a great experience. When I first walked in, I wasn’t greeted immediately, but after a few moments, a member of staff welcomed me and showed me to a table. The aesthetics of the restaurant are really nice, and it has a cosy, warm atmosphere. The service was good overall, especially from the manager. One of the servers also accommodated a request I had regarding one of the dishes, which I really appreciated. However, one of the waitresses came across as a little rude, as she sighed when I asked for the menu so I could order another dish. The chicken katsu curry was a really nice, warm, and satisfying meal. The only thing I would say is that the consistency of the curry felt a little thin, but otherwise, it was great! The Gyu Don was okay, in my opinion. The description said it was mildly sweet, but I found it quite sweet, which I personally didn’t enjoy. However, if you like sweeter dishes, I think you would really enjoy it. Overall, I’d rate my experience a 4/5, and I’d definitely visit again to try some of the other dishes.

We had a very nice meal. We ordered a Mount Fuji sushi roll which was the highlight of the meal. We also ordered a chicken yaki udon, eel in teriyaki sauce and also a pork ramen. The food was great, the service was efficient. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Booking is advance is a must!

Looking for a place to have dinner, we stopped at this small, warm, and welcoming place, where a very smiling lady immediately seated us. The food arrived quickly, and everything was delicious. Prices were absolutely reasonable, and we highly recommend it.

Halal beef and chicken. Service was good and so was the decor inside and the food was alright as well although the prices were a little high. BUT my friend sent me a screenshot of the food hygiene here from the government website and it's rated 1. YUCK! Go to lady pool road for food instead 😭

The takoyaki and tonkotsu ramen were both so good! 🍜🤤 The pork in the ramen literally melts in your mouth 🙈 so tender and full of flavour. The staff were lovely and welcoming too, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I’d happily come back to! 🇯🇵✨

Had dinner at Tokyo Izakaya Birmingham and really enjoyed it. The ramen was flavourful, well balanced, and served piping hot. The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, and quick service. A great spot in the city centre if you’re craving proper Japanese comfort food.

This is a traditional Japanese restaurant with sashimi, sushi, don and noodles etc but not the type of fast food sushi, our first choice restaurant for the family. And we love Christy so much with her warm reception all the time. You won't regret to try.

Had a lovely meal with family celebrating an upcoming wedding. Various sushi and meals ordered. I had prawn sushi starter followed by katsu chicken curry which came with rice and some kale, all tasted great. Ordered water for the table as we'd had a cocktails session and needed dome fluid but only 1 bottle between 6 and when asked for a further bottle it didn't arrive which was the only downside

Came here for a celebratory meal and was not disappointed. The staff and service was outstanding. The menu selection from sushi, bento boxes, noodle dishes and sides were amazing. The food was top notch and you can tell quality ingredients and love go into each dish.

Went for a lunch with my family. Very clean and comfortable place. We didn't book but manage to get a table. I have been to this place before a couple of times. Everytime we had tasty food staff was very polite too. We all had great time and came out smile on our faces.

Dined here a while back. Wait time was more than 15 minutes long to be seated seemingly due to the place being nearly full, and both drinks/food took a long time to be served. Food was tasty and served hot, which is nice to see, albeit slightly dry. Waiter was polite and it is clear that staff are trained well and accommodate diners well, as we saw them catering to a birthday in a group nicely. Picturesque restaurant, good ambience, and great music choices in a convenient location. Would highly recommend.

We visited Tokyo Izakaya on December 13th while shopping in the city center. Even though the restaurant was busy and full, a kind staff member managed to seat us after only a 10-minute wait, which we really appreciated as the kids were starving! As a family with specific dietary requirements, we asked about the halal status of the chicken. The staff were incredibly helpful; they called over a manager who confirmed the chicken is halal and took the time to explain their sourcing process. This level of transparency and service gave us great peace of mind. The food was delicious and clearly cooked to order. The kids enjoyed their favorites, while we had the Chicken Katsu Curry and Chicken Teriyaki Ramen. The portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. The nearest parking is available at the Grand Central/New Street Station car park or the Bullring shopping center, both just a short walk away. Opening Hours: Monday – Thursday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM Friday – Saturday: 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM Sunday: 12:00 PM – 9:30 PM

This was one of the first places we went after coming back from Japan last year and honestly we were so happy with the food as it reminded us of our time in Japan. We went again recently and were wowed again with the food. The food tastes amazing and very fresh. The grilled pork belly yakitori was perfection. The Eel with rice was superb and so was the Salmon bento. Not to forget their Tempura is top notch. Perfectly seasoned and non oily. Just the best. I love the ambience of this place as well. Very nicely decorated and casual dining with great service.

The grilled beef tongue and avocado salad were absolutely fantastic. The beef tongue was cooked perfectly – tender with just the right amount of bite – and the avocado salad was fresh and refreshing. The sushi was lovely and fragrant. The tempura offered a great variety and was beautifully crisp on the outside while light and tender inside, though it did become a little rich after a while. The tofu, however, wasn’t quite as good as I’d expected. Overall, a very enjoyable meal and somewhere I’d happily visit again.

A fantastic hole-in-the-wall spot to find in Birmingham central! I knew instantly that we were in safe hands when we were the only western faces in the building! Charming decor, friendly and bubbly staff, tasty food. Only remembered to photograph the Tower Bridge & Alligator rolls after we'd already dug in! Exceptional sushi. I had the fried squid, and duck gyozas. The squid was perfectly cooked, worth every penny. Definitely coming back here when next in the area.

Great place near the station. Friendly staff super food. We had the waygu beef fried rice and waygu beef nigiri along with tempura volcano all of which were amazing. When I’m back in Brum I will def go back. Such a rare gem and lovely people

Had such a great experience at Tokyo Izakay. The food was genuinely impressive everything came out fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The gyoza were perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy inside, the sushi rolls were well balanced and delicious, and the tempura was light and crunchy without feeling greasy. Even the simple dishes like edamame were spot on. The service was just as good as the food. Staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything arrived quickly without feeling rushed. They created a really welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant itself has a lovely vibe warm lighting, relaxed setting, and that authentic izakaya feel that makes you want to sit back, share plates, and enjoy a drink. Overall, great food, great service, and a really nice atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting and I’ll be back.

I recently discovered this ramen house in Birmingham and it has quickly become my favorite in town. The ramen is hands down the best I’ve had here—rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. Portions are generous and definitely value for money. On top of that, the staff are friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. Highly recommend for anyone craving a great bowl of hot ramen and Japanese food.

Delicious food yesterday evening before visiting The Alexandra theatre. We had 2 bentonite boxes, noodles ans katsu curry and all dishes were excellent. I'd also like to say thank you for the excellent service on a very busy evening, and for finding us a table when I hadn't been organised enough to book!

When you go to an Asian restaurant which are currently very popular at the moment, you can always expect good service & good food. Tokyo izakaya is one of the best ive been too. Me and my friends had an array of different foods from sashimi, to bento boxes & also katsu curry. All dishes, slapped other than the sashimi which my friends were not keen on, but this is definitely down to preference & not the food itself. The staff were very attentive & were always their when we needed them. Price was abit on the more expensive side but always to be expected with brum town. Cannot praise the meal enough from this restaurant, definitely recommend.

This place it self from outside might not look as compelling as from the inside, the inside of the restaurant is amazingly decorated, the staff is very friendly and acknowledges your presence, the food and atmosphere is very nice, the price of each item is understandable, I didn’t have change and had only notes of 20s and 10s and 5s, my total was £36 and something, but the staff said £35 was fine as I didn’t have change, I gave them £40 out of £45 but my only 5 was missing when I went outside, so when I requested my £5 again that I had given, they gave it back to me with no hesitation and were very polite about the situation and accepted £35, would certainly recommend this place, a place to visit again!

Absolutely Outstanding! I recently visited Tokyo Izakaya and was blown away by the whole experience. The atmosphere is warm, stylish, and authentically Japanese. You feel like you’ve stepped straight into a Tokyo backstreet eatery. The sushi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented; every bite melted in the mouth. I've tried Chicken Kastu Curry, Chicken Kastu, Akita Mango and Salmon Maki, and Volcano Dragon Maki. It was full of flavour and grilled to perfection. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations from both the food and sake menu. The Robata grill dishes were a standout, and the tonkotsu ramen was rich, comforting, and packed with umami. A big thank you to Jessica, Mukesh, and the entire team for the delicious food and warm hospitality. If you’re looking for genuine Japanese dining in Birmingham, this is easily one of the best. I’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommended!

I visited twice and enjoyed my meal both times! The sushi is pretty good quality especially the salmon! The unagi jyu was great too, I found it quite rich and difficult to finish but that is just the nature of the dish I was happy to find a good Japanese restaurant 😊 if I’m ever back in Birmingham I will come here again

First time eating here, after some shopping in Birmingham! Absolutely beautiful restaurant with friendly staff. Super quick service given it was a busy Saturday. The tonkotsu ramen was to die for alongside the chicken gyoza. My Mom had the chicken katsu, which was also amazing! The best I've ever had actually. Would definitely recommend and would return again!

this is probably our 3rd time going and we were blown away once again. we had a table booked for 4:30 for valentines day, we got there slightly early but were seated right away. they gave us a good amount of time to pick our food and drinks. they took our orders, and starting bringing out the food not even 15mins after! the food was incredible as always, and the blue lagoon was delicious. they played beautiful music, and even played happy birthday for the table next to us. overall an amazing experience and we will definitely be going again.
