Had a good experience here last night. Service was attentive & whilst there was a delay in some of the food arriving, the boss came over with an additional dish for us to try , which was not sought by us, and this was delicious & a nice touch.The food was overall very good. The ‘Table Naan’ was impressive but let down by what appeared to be the use of margarine rather than ghee, which was the only complaint we have on the food.I would definitely recommend this place & would also definitely return.
A little underwhelmed after the good reviews and the Hairy Bikers thing , food was ok the best thing was the bread , really good garlic Naan , I was expecting more of a gravy style Balti but it was not at all , the chicken was thigh meat which was good but the sauce was just ok , my wife had a mixed grill again it was ok not much on it though , the place looked very tired but the staff were pleasant .
Ordered online. Delivered with a discounted fee. Food was just as it was described in the menu with so much flavour, fresh meat cooked obviously with confidence. Open until 5am - being so late/early is a bonus in itself .😛😁💛
Shababs is well known for his balti dishes, we had tried their balti paneer, dal fry and rice. Dal fry is fantastic but paneer is ok. Must visit once.

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a good restaurant open at 4 AM in Birmingham, especially since I had an early meeting. The food was delicious, and it was a treat to finally try this famous Birmingham spot. However, I was initially planning on ordering delivery because of the early hour, but I was shocked to find that the menu prices on the delivery app were actually cheaper than dining in! This was confusing since I'm aware that delivery apps typically charge extra commissions. Additionally, I ordered pulao rice, but they brought boiling rice instead. The server presented it as "Here is the Pulao rice," which was quite confusing!! . Overall, a great experience with a curious pricing twist and a small hiccup with the order.
Amazing food and best curry’s which we ever try . I highly recommended to everyone. Owner and all Staff very friendly with smile on face at all time. Restaurant have good atmosphere and is clean . Can’t wait to back with family when they open new building .
What can I say.. Shababs was a fantastic Balti house and one of the last original remaining In the balti triangle, the Chicken tikka started was tender and not at all dry which it sometimes can be. The lamb saag was flavoursome and right amount of spice, great staff and will return again... top marks and thank you..
This is the best balti I have ever eaten.The dish was so hot it kept the food hot till the last bite. Thanks for the superb chicken and mushroom balti. Lots of cumin and delicious.
I recently visited Shabab’s Restaurant on the Ladypool Road in Birmiingham with some friends from Oxford, and I have to say, it was one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I've ever had.From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this place is in serious need of a health inspection.First and foremost, I was horrified to see rats scurrying around in the kitchen. It's hard to enjoy your meal when you know there are rodents running around where your food is being prepared.To make matters worse, the way the meat was stored was utterly unsanitary. It looked like something out of a horror movie—definitely not the standard you would expect from any restaurant, let alone one that’s still in business.To top it all off, the owner was incredibly arrogant and dismissive when we brought our concerns to his attention. Rather than showing any concern for the health and safety of his customers, he shrugged off our complaints as if they were nothing. It was clear he had no regard for the dining experience or well-being of his patrons.Unfortunately, the aftermath of our visit was just as bad. All of us fell ill the next morning, a direct result of the appalling conditions we encountered at the restaurant.If you value your health and your dining experience, I strongly advise you to stay far away from Shabab’s.Save your money and your stomach—there are plenty of other places that actually care about their customers and maintain hygiene standards. Avoid this place unless you’re looking for a recipe for disaster!Really disappointed……

Leaving a review for this pathetic establishment. I ordered a takeaway at quarter to 8, estimated delivery time of between 9 and 9.20. it hadnt arrived by 9:20 so I queried this on just eat, the time was revised to arrive at 9:50. Rang the restaurant at 10 past 10 to be told abruptly 'its on the way'. It never arrived, I'm 44 quid out of pocket and apparently not entitled to a refund. Actual joke

Guy charged the guy who didn't eat £50 ehen we clearly said split the bill. Then just said sorry, some people can't afford to pay and can out them into an unnecessary situation. Food excellent as always, the young boss always a good host.

Havnt been back for a while good as ever consistently good food, not a complaint wish the nanns were slightly bigger, Balti dishes are never floating in oil balance of spice and flavour is just sublime, been eating Baltis for 40years and this place is one of the best keep doing what your doing if it’s broke don’t fix it like some have tried and failed 👍🏻

Not the best service. Food was good but the service nearly made me want to leave. It was Sunday at 12pm and the place was empty, but they just didn't seem to be interested in serving us.
If you want a traditional balti cooked and served in its own pan, this is the place to go. There are many other balti restaurants nearby, but after trying most of them in the last 20 - 30 yrs, Shebabs has come out on top for me. The Balti menu is extensive, but I have found the balti chicken mushroom & spinach to be the most flavourful, but the other options are great too👍. Oh, by the way, bring your own booze to this place as it does not serve alcohol.
We had an awful experience and it was entirely due to the manager’s behavior😤.It was clear they had no interest in customer service or professionalism. What made it worse was how they treated their own employees yelling at the servers in front of customers and making everyone visibly uncomfortable. A good manager should lead by example, but this person clearly has no idea how to handle customers, staff, or even basic responsibilities. If this is the leadership, I can only imagine how miserable it must be to work here. We won’t be coming back, and I’d recommend avoiding this place until they find someone who actually knows how to manage a restaurant.

For me one of the best Indian food places in Birmingham. The waiters are very friendly and help you choose based on your preferences.The establishment does not sell alcohol but you can bring it from home or buy it at a nearby store.The account is for 6 people.
Food very good. Think the balti bowls we had needed scraping. I realise balti bowls have to be seasond as I have some myself but there was baked on food on ours. The glass on the tables need to be taken off and cleaned on the underneath also the seating and floor needed a deep clean would recommend the food

This is a restaurant for White people who want a British Indian tikka or korma washed down with a few cans of stella or glasses of wine you bought from the off licence over the road. By all means come here after a few pints but don't think you are getting anything exceptional or authentic because a TV show said so. Its like saying the curry at Wetherspoons was the best you ever had. If you really want to experience authentic food, there are some great restaurants on Stoney Lane and Ladypool rd doing kashmiri and Pakistani food, these are 'dry' restaurants. Throw yourself out of your comfort zone. If you want to drink beer and eat inoffensive balti, you want Shababs. At £13 for a main without rice, its not cheap. Maybe a fool and their money are easily parted?

If you are looking for a traditionalbalti restaurant with a wide variety of dishes, Shababs Balti Restaurant is a good option. Had seen lots of reviews so thought would give it a try and wasn't disappoint. We had mixed sizzling starter and of course a balti for main course wow it was fantastic full of flavour the dish was red hot due to been cooked traditionally in it so be careful not to burn your self. All staff were very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend in curry triangle come here.
We always come to Shababs whenever we're in Sparkbrook. Definitely the best curry in Birmingham. The menu is brilliant with a large variety of different dishes. Everything I have tried is delicious. All the staff are really friendly and it's always a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The service is always 10 out of 10. Shababs is the pride of Ladypool Road and I heartily recommend this restaurant to all Balti lovers.

Absolutely incredible flavours. We are vegetarian and the veggie Balti options were amazing. We had Balti Paneer Masala and Balti Veg Jalfrezi - both tasted individual and soooooo tastey. Great portions. BYOB. Nann was huge, everything served hot, great service and great value for money. It was well worth the trip from London, great experience to visit the Balti triangle, a gem of Birmingham. We hope to be back at Shababs soon!

Awesome and timeless. I come here a couple times a year. The staff are super friendly and very attentive. If you want a traditional Birmingham balti then come to this place, all the other places are balti imitations. Wish this place all the best and go from strength to strength.
Rocked up at 3am on Sat after an all day session. Lamb balti and naan was heavenly.

We traveled from Nantwich after hearing great things about this restaurant. Despite arriving late, around 11 p.m., it was still busy but we were seated right away. The wait was about 20 minutes, so we started with poppadoms and a delicious mix of sauces.When our meals arrived, we were absolutely blown away! My wife had the Chicken Balti, and I ordered the Madras Chicken Balti. I have a sensitivity to too much vegetable oil, so I asked if they could use coconut oil instead. They were incredibly accommodating and didn’t hesitate to make the change. As for the curry.. honestly! it was phenomenal, without doubt the best meal I’ve ever had. I thought I knew good curry, but this was on another level, far beyond anything I’ve tried in any restaurant, regardless of cuisine.I just wanted to leave a positive review because we were both thrilled with the entire experience. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and can’t wait to come back. Thank you, everyone at Shababs, for making our night perfect.One last note, many restaurants leave us feeling overly full and uncomfortable, but not here. The portions were generous and didn't leave us feeling sluggish and rotten!If you get the chance, go have a Balti. It’s honestly the best—500 stars from us!
Main courses tasted great. However, sauces with poppadoms were poor. Starters were terrible eg onion rings tasted like cheap frozen rings. Most ordered starters didn't turn up. Huge delay serving main courses. Service was poor. Not recommended.

Its worth the hype - the best balti I have had, however its a very small place and the area is a dump to be honest... Best to book and you can bring your own beer and wine.. give it a go just leave the nice car at home like I did... free street parking after 8pm
Worst experience ever . Horrible tasting food. Asked for a spicy karahi and we got a sweet tasting curry with capsicum and raw tomatoes no green chilli at all . Wonder who calls it a karahi and the tikka was full of oil as if it was fried and then just reheated to be served. Will never be going again even if it was free

One of the worst if not THE worst indian takeaway I have ever had! The poppadoms were burnt the salad was full chunks of salad not diced with no herbs/coriander in it. The dip was a single dip which looked like leftovers from other dips mixed together. The nann was rubbery and doughey and only cooked on one side it was dreadful. As for the main the meat was over cooked the portion was only in a 500ml tub there wasn't much sauce and It certainly did not taste like a chicken tikka masala as I ordered. The only positives I can give is that the spicing was good and there was a good proportion of meat in the dish, that said I definitely will not be returning. A waste of a hard earned £36 and a disappointing rare treat!!!
Absolutely awesome curry! Four pals and I hit the joint tonight (Friday) for our second feed on this curry drag over the years. We hit Birmingham only once per year for Symphony Hall music geekery, but have done so since the late nineties. Whilst it isn't the highlight of our weekend in town, it is indeed optimal that we receive our share of premium quality scran. The place was busy but not rammed. My Tandoori grill was arguably the best I've tried. The cheese naan tasted fine and was pretty huge (I dusted it, don't panic). Rice's and starters sailed down. Beers were scored from the off-licence some yards up the road so it saved a few quid. Service was friendly and conversation fluent. Impressive all round for sure 👍
there’s a reason this restaurant is iconic. the food here is fantastic - I’d especially recommend the tikka balti dishes for people like me who love flavour but have a low spice tolerance
I visited this restaurant on the 21st August 2024 I came up from Manchester with a friend to try this place out and we had a table nan and a garlic chicken balti and definitely one of the best curries I've ever had! 10/10

I recently dined at Shababs based on the reviews and social media hype, hoping for a flavorful meal, but unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. The ambiance was inviting, and the service was attentive, but the food itself was a letdown.
Always come here when I’m Birmingham. The baltis were as delicious as ever - we’ve never had better, the Nan excellent and the mixed grill starter was excellent. Lovely friendly staff made our visit perfect

I ordered food from uber eats, my korma was pure liquid and had spicy seasoning on. Its a korma why tf u putting spice on it. Not happy at all complaining 3 different times because of this. They also have a 2/5 higine rating so keep that in mind when you order. Never had an issue with a korma before idk how u mess it up this badly. Egg fried rice is also just nasty taste

I ordered lamb biriyani. It was OK, but there were too many lamb pieces and very little Rice.I ordered a mixed grill tikka. The lamb tikka was horrible to taste and not even properly cooked.
Had a late night dinner from here during a weekend. Was not very crowded and didn't do a reservation to get in. Ordered the BBC featured curry and some rotis. The curry was spicy and had a really good flavour to it. We ordered few starters as well. Overall a really good dining experience which doesn't tear your pockets.

This place was amazing, I've never been to Birmingham or to the balti triangle, having travelled down from the north east of England we had to find a good curry house and oh boy did we.I've always just stuck to plain korma, and after chatting to the lovely manager (credit to to family what a lovely gentleman) he said oh no try this dish and it was amazing, all the food from the starters to mains were gorgeous, the lamb I always find a bit fatty but not here, just melted in your mouth.The wait staff were very friendly, the service was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I would highly recommend this place to any!!!
Went in had a poppadom then waiter brought me a little bowl of what look like mint dip with onions in it and something red in it looked like something accidentally spilt in it I never ate it then ordered sheek kebab when it came I sat there with no cutlery for over 5 minutes I had to tell them to bring cutlery bad service then ordered chicken bhuna which was real salty disappointed told told me it would be 10 out of 10 nxt time but still charge me full price i will not be returning pretty pricey as well for the venue I was not impressed

Finally got to try this place 3 weeks ago after seeing it on YouTube, travelled from Barmouth wales and Il do it again soon it was that good, I had the mixed sizzler, chicken tikka balti and mushroom rice with a keema naan, so good and a good experience to be at the infamous shababs, thank you very much 👍🏻
The food was good especially the chicken chilli garlic kadhai and we also ordered the shami kebab which was OK . For dessert we ordered gulab jamun and mango kulfi which was very tasty.

Well I have been going to the Shababs for over 20 years and more moved away so a little far to go but I went last night the staff are wonderful and greeted me with a smile and as they always do Zee Usman Zaf one again starters, Balti nann breads were amazing same taste flavours all these years thankyou guys AngieThe selection I chose was similar to what I had because I couldn't it wasn't there
I came to the shop, and I ordered a curry. I slipped and fell and ended up in a korma. The naan was very nice though. Would recommend.
I was a bit sceptical about this place. I thought it catered for more European palate but how wrong I was. The mains were amazing. We had lamb tikka masala bhuna garlic chicken masala, mixed grill tikka masala and prawns and spinach. Each dish was fab. Table nans are enormous and you can tell it is good quality flour and these were lovely.Only let down was starter we had mixed grill. Sheekh kebabs were succulent and juicy. Remainder was over cooked and chewy.But definitely a place to go back to again.You need to book in advance. It was heaving on a satuday and queues outside when we left

The place is a good old fashioned curry house.The staff are friendly and willing to help you with your experience.Just research shababs on YouTube. Countless videos there.I've travelled from Ireland twice just to eat there and looking forward to my next trip.

We have long heard about this infamous restaurant. I’ve been desperate to visit and having the opportunity to pass Birmingham a visit here was a must for a curry fan for myself.They did not disappoint the chicken tikka was full of flavour with nice touches of char. The garlic chicken Balti was stunning best curry I’ve had in yearsThis will be a must for us whenever we are in the area. Until then we have to watch one of the many how to videos that this restaurant features in.
Had a curry 3 roti fried rice and chicken pakora for some reason the food taste is going downhill

The food was delicious chicken and mushroom balti freshly baked nann, shesh kebab starter poppadoms chips all so fresh and pipping hot, this place has to be up there with one of the best balti houses I've been to. If anyone is thinking of a good authentic balti Shababs is the place. Can't wait to visit again very soon.
First time I went last night and despite going past it many times as a kid I never been until last night and the reputation does speak for itself it was worth it.
I had an absolutely appalling experience at Shababs recently. The service consistently fell short, with repeated errors in our orders. Initially, I shrugged it off, but after the third mistake, my frustration grew. When we voiced our concerns, the staff responded with blatant attitude and rudeness, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for my family and kids. To compound matters, we were bombarded with disturbing calls on our landline between 11pm and 1am on multiple occasions. The callers described my wife and young daughters in a sexual and highly inappropriate manner, citing details from our visit to the restaurant. Upon confronting the callers and mentioning our suspicion that they were Shababs staff, they abruptly hung up, seemingly caught in the act. It's a deeply disturbing and repulsive ordeal, and the conduct of the staff was utterly unacceptable.
Great atmosphere and brilliant food. My biryani was delicately spiced with superb veg sauce. Check out the table naan. Great evening out. Recommended.
This was my first time in Birmingham and first time visiting the Balti Triangle so I had to stop at Shebabs !This was no disappointment!! The staff are extremely welcoming , the atmosphere is great and the quality of food is unmatched.I highly recommend Shebabs to anyone visiting the Balti triangle or even visiting Birmingham! The price is average which was a bonus and i will definitely be returning.10/10
I was drunk as a skunk, ordered food on Uber eats, and going though a breakup. THEY INCLUDED A BOX OF CADBURYS. This is probably the best thing ever, I’ve ordered from them for a couple weeks and I love how amazing they are!!!!

Avoid! I had a really bad experience in this restaurant! I reserved a table,but when i arrived i had to wait around 10 min to get a table.This restaurant is suppose to be muslim management,they allowed the non muslim people to bring their own alcohol! This is haram!!! The chicken tikka jalfreizi was disgusting! AVOID! REALLY DISAPPOINTING!

You may struggle to find a place to park, but the food makes up for it. I really enjoyed a Chicken Biryani here, slightly spicier than normal but wasn’t a problem. Table naan was huge too!
Well based on the bbc hype and many other influence online we had tor try out this balti. The restaurant was almost empty with staff eating right there which is ok. However they weren’t very friendly. Veg food was good but the lamb balti was disappointing and the egg fried rice not sure if I can call it that. The chapathis are super large and the staff did. What can I say, simply the best😋 Well worth the periodic trips up from South Wales to eat at Shababs. 😍
Sadly this place was a big letdown. We visited Birmingham from London and looked forward to a decent curry, having walked the entire 'Balti triangle' Shababs was the only balti remaining.I was immediately taken with how dirty the place was, there were greasy smears on the bench seat, the table was dirty and the water pitcher was cracked and also dirty (photos attached) the whole place is in need of some TLC and deep cleaning. Sauces that were given with poppadoms were clearly from previous diners (and not Free).... a tide mark around the dish was very telling.The dishes served were swimming in fat and I didn't eat mine, my partner ate most of his but complained of heartburn and acid feeling shortly after.The only saving grace was the size of the Naan bread, which also wasn't eaten as it was drowned in what tasted like margarine not ghee.Price was also overinflated for a grim area.Left a bad taste figuratively and literally.
Eight of us had different dishes and every person said they were delicious.
Visiting Birmingham we decided we had to have a balti triangle dining experience. Researching places to go Shababs came up again and again, not only as a great place to eat but also as one of the few remaining original balti houses. So, our decion was made, and it did not disappoint. Friendly and efficient service, delicious food and the largest 'table naan' we've ever seen!Thanks to the team for cooking such a lovely meal for us and making our Birmingham balti experiencea memorable and authentic one.
Can't speak for the rest of the menu but I always order a butter chicken when getting an Indian takeaway. This was unfortunately the worst one I've ever had. It had no flavour whatsoever NONE. To the point where I had to add my own chilli powder just to taste something. The Balti was really plain too and side sauces are super watery now. Will try something else next time and hopefully have better luck.
Been to Birmingham a few times but only ever found a few good places to eat. Happily can now add another one to the list. We ordered chicken kebabs, a chicken karahi masala, with chapattis. The chapattis were hot and crispy, and big, but probably just a little too thick. The kebabs were delicious, hot, and spiced just right. However, the best item was the chicken curry. It came in a wok thing, steaming hot, and flavoured with spices, peppers and onions. Probably one of the best karahis I've ever had. One minor gripe, is that it was probably a tad on the small side - so make sure you order individually! The staff were friendly, perhaps a little disorganised, but friendly, helpful and attentive. The premises were also clean and nice done up. The prices are also more than reasonable. Highly recommended, and I can't wait to go again.
Went for a balti here, walked in early Sunday Eve, with no reservation but they found us a table straight away. The main dishes came out after about 10 mins and they hit the spot, fish karahi, chicken with chana, chicken tikka jalfrezi were all excellent, great caramelised flavours where you can really taste the spices. Naans were also good, peshwari was amazing with honey. Table naans are huge, ideal for a group.
First time I have been to Birmingham, and everyone has been hyping this place up for weeks.They weren't wrong at all.It's probably the best Indian I have ever been to, from the excellent service to the absolute perfect food, plus you can bring your own alcohol so that saves a few quid.The ingredients were too drawer and cooked to perfection.
So seen a few reviews on YouTube. And I wanted a hood decent Balti fish so went here. I hate driving in this area as it'd always busy but fortunately they open early so we had a mid afternoon lunch / dinner.I had Chicken and Lamb Balti, my son had tikka masala prawns and mushroom. They were out of normal prawns so added in king prawns.We decided to go for the table naan and at first sight regretted the decision as we thought how will be both of us finish this.. about an hour later we both had polished our baltis and there was a small amount of naan left. We went for mild as we have an event to go through and didn't want our stomachs to be messed up, however I know I will definitely return and next time will go for the hot (in spice) dish.There were about 3 tables additional to ours with other ppl on and I know most likely they will get busier later. Due to my own anxiety I do not like to be in busy environments so was glad that it was mellow in there.I am really picky about my dishes however there was great flavour, both the chicken and lamb were soft and easy to chew. There was flavour. My son enjoyed his prawns and mushroom (both things I hate).
