We haven’t been in a while so it was fantastic to be back and tonight did not disappoint. Kingsley and the team were an absolute delight and took care of us all evening. The food was outstanding! Every dish was an absolute delight 😊

I track all my calories daily. An app found this place after I took a photo. The fried fish and green sauce fit my protein goals well and tasted great. It is a nice spot with quick service.

Went here on a Wednesday evening and the service was great! loved the interiors as well. We really enjoyed the antipasti and pasta dishes, especially the courgette flower & sage and Ricotta pasta! The only things that were slightly disappointing was the lamb dish which is meant to be served pink but it was overcooked and the cocktails were ok. Other than this everything was really good and the desserts were 10 out 10!

We went to Tropea for a reunion and to celebrate a birthday, and honestly, we had such a great evening.

From the moment we arrived until we left, everyone made us feel really welcome. A special mention to Ihsaam to who was absolutely brilliant. The service was friendly, very professional, and full of personality. Everyone one was so lovely and made us feel genuinely welcomed. I really enjoy interacting with the people who welcome you, because it gives such a family vibe, and they 100% delivered that warm, welcoming service, which we appreciated so much.

We had a bit of everything, as you should when you go out with friends or a partner and want to share dishes. The menu is perfect for sharing, and everything we tried was beautiful! For a few hours, it genuinely felt like we were on holiday somewhere rather than in Birmingham.

We were there to surprise a friend for her birthday, and she absolutely loved it. It was such a lovely evening, and everything just came together perfectly.

Amazing atmosphere, great staff, great drinks, and a really special experience. We honestly couldn’t have picked a better place. Definitely more than 5 stars from us!

These guys man, they knock it out the park every single time. I've been a few times now and without doubt one of the best restaurants in the West Midlands. I went with my partner for lunch on Saturday, the service, food, drinks, value for money, all of it is just excellent. Lovely family vibes too - we don't have kids but I appreciate a venue that can and does accomodate kids, I think it's great!

Mid food, overrated and too dark. The rabbit ragu was under seasoned and the bombolone was quite bad, almost inedible.
We were also made uncomfortable by our waiter trying to coerce us into ordering more food than we wanted.

Honestly the most amazing meal out we have ever had! The service was incredible, we didn’t get our servers name but he was so friendly and treated us amazingly! We met a couple the night before in a restaurant who said this was the best food in Birmingham, if Joe and Barbara ever see this review then we would like them to know, they are right!!! We met the owner Ben who was so lovely, you can tell so much love goes into the entire place. We will be sure to eat here everytime we visit Birmingham without a doubt! What makes a great meal out? Atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable service and stunning food.

Tropea in Harborne delivers on every level.

We dined there as a party of six and Matthew, our waiter, wrote us a suggested menu. The food was absolutely stunning; a real night to remember.

It’s definitely an experience that benefits from friends or family who are happy to share dishes, as you get to sample so much more of the menu.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Tropea to everyone 👍🏻👍🏻

Our Daughter gifted us a voucher for Christmas to enjoy the Tropea experience, and what an experience it was! Amazing food in a beautiful, relaxed environment, with excellent service. The rabbit ragu, and lobster cappelletti were stand out dishes, but all of it was so delicious. Loved the idea of sharing plates to experience as many tastes as possible. 100% we will return, and have fully recommended it to our friendship groups. Perfect, thank you Team Tropea.

The food's very good - different ingredients, regional specialities, all excellently prepared and very tasty - but portions are small and it's by no means inexpensive. The service can be iffy, with staff pandering more to bigger tables of apparent high rollers, and as it's often busy with diners squashed in it can be too loud for easy conversation.

Been meaning to go for ages but wedding anniversary seemed a good excuse. Tropea didn't disappoint. When booking staff took care to talk through my wife's allergies and ensured there was a wide choice of dishes and adapted dishes for her.
At the restaurant staff had gone to the trouble or preparing a unique menu with the allergy friendly dishes starred and wishing us happy anniversary.
We were talked through recommendations and waiting staff were never pushy. We ordered the focaccia, bombolone, stuffed courgette flowers, lobster and mushroom pasta dishes, lamb and tomato salad as well as two stunning desserts. The food was flawless and packed a huge punch of flavour. The surrounds and service capped off a fabulous night and it won't be long until we are back. Thank you

I already had high expectations of Tropea, not least because of Grace Dent’s brilliant review, but our lunch there today surpassed even those! Our lunch was utterly perfect, from the staff, ambience and baby friendly atmosphere, to the incredible menu, seasonal produce, and flawless service. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday and the team couldn’t have done a better job of making her feel very special. Thank you team - we’ll be back!

What a fabulous restaurant! We had never been before and were a little overwhelmed when looking at the menu, however we needn't have worried as our server was extremely helpful and recommended dishes and explained the menu to us. The service was excellent, friendly and professional. The food was of an exceptional quality, beautifully presented. We attended for a birthday meal, and the restaurant made the occasion very special. I would definitely recommend Tropea. We shall certainly visit again.

Huge disappointment. We visited yesterday relying on the Michelin Bib Gourmand recommendation, but it was a total fiasco. We were a party of three, all very familiar with authentic Italian cuisine, and we left completely baffled by how this place made it into the guide.
The atmosphere is decent it has a fine-dining vibe without being overly luxurious but the food (the main reason we came) was a massive letdown.
We ordered the fried pumpkin, focaccia, burrata salad, and bombolone to start. The only decent item was the burrata. The focaccia was standard, something you’d find anywhere. The rest was poor; we couldn't even finish the bombolone, it was that bad.
For mains, the tagliatelle was mediocre, and the steak was completely ordinary nothing you couldn't get at a random steakhouse. Dessert was the final blow: the dark chocolate sorbet was forgettable, and the cannoli felt like an insult to Italian cuisine.
It is shocking that Michelin recommends this spot. Honestly, you can find much better, more authentic Italian flavors at a franchise like Eataly. I strictly do not recommend this place. A complete waste of time and expectation.

A recommendation and it did definitely deliver.

We stayed clear of the meat mains as per recommendation so I can’t review that however.

Cocktails:
Negroni 9/10
Paper Plane 9/10

Antipasti:
Sun-dried tomato focaccia 7/10
Bombolone 10:10
Venison carpaccio 10/10

Pasta:
Cappellaci 10/10
Linguinie with crab: 8/10

Vegetarian:
Aubergine parmigiana 9/10
Beetroot salad 8/10

Dessert:
Tirimasu - 9/10

The place is very cosy with nice lighting and the service was impeccable I have to say they were super attentive and chatty which made you feel very at home.

Is it expensive ? Yes.

But it’s an experience that warrants coming to check it out, I will be back to try more of the menu

This’s my first time to dine at Tropea. We ordered two appetisers, two pasta (one half size and one full size), one main dish and two desserts. The dish I and my kids like most is the crab linguine, it’s really al dente. Tiramisu is our favourite too. However, the duck leg is a bit salty. Overall, the food and service is good.

I’ve been wanting to try Tropea for a while and finally got the chance to visit for my first anniversary. The food, experience and service were all excellent. I really love the sharing concept since it lets you try a bit of everything, especially for someone like me who enjoys exploring new dishes. The battered courgette, monkfish and baked eggplant were amazing, and the Tropea sundae and dark chocolate sorbet were absolutely 💯

We visited Tropea for our anniversary and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The service was incredible. The waiter really went above and beyond to make the evening feel really special. They even personalised our menus with “Happy Anniversary” printed on them, which was such a thoughtful touch.

The food was absolutely outstanding. If you love authentic Italian food, this place is an absolute must-visit.

We loved the intimate atmosphere and the way the staff made everything feel so thoughtful and personal.

Tropea made our anniversary unforgettable. Highly recommend!

Had a booking on the strength of a recommendation. Upon arrival I was left standing in the doorway for 10 minutes while the waiter/attendant blanked me multiple times. I approached the lady behind the bar and informed her I had a booking. She informed me she would be with me asap. 5 minutes later still no one attended to me. With no waiting area and just left to stand in the door way this is very low customer service. Ive never had this in any establishment. Once seated when asked when would we like the food to come out. Even though we informed the waiter we would want the food to come out as soon as its ready he was very pushy and forced us to have it on a shared basis. Again as other said very pushy on suggesting additional dishes. All the food I ate was very nice. After I informed the waiter that I wasnt happy with being left hanging other staff served me who offered better customer service.

A great Italian with wonderful food. The smoked eel pasta was divine as indeed the waiter promised. The only slight negative was the price which seemed a little "toppy" but I haven't eaten out for a while so am perhaps behind the curve on this.

If I could rate this restaurant 10/5, I would. We booked here for my graduation meal expecting some good Italian food, but our experience blew all expectations out of the water. From the moment we sat down to the minute we left, the servers couldn’t have been kinder, more attentive, or more hospitable; the attention to detail, care, and genuine warmth was second to none and made my day so special. And the food - oh my gosh, the food. I can’t put into words how delicious each and every dish they gave us was; I don’t think I’ve ever had pasta so nice or chicken so tender! All the hype you’ve heard and read about this place is true, you need to eat here at least once to truly understand. And thank you once again to the Tropea team, from front of house to kitchen staff, for making my graduation a night to truly remember.

This was our second time dining at Tropea post Michelin star and extension and it did not disappoint. Courgette flowers were divine: mint and goats cheese transported me back to Cyprus. While normally not a fan of savoury and sweet, the burrata with strawberry was subtle and silky. For pasta, we choose the wild prawn linguine and beef cheek ragu. If I had to offer one criticism, both were a tad over-salted, which slightly overpowered the flavours. If I remember correctly, I had the same criticism the first time we visited. The chef is clearly skilled so no need to over salt! The spatchcock chicken was a surprising standout dish. So difficult to get a tasty chicken these days, wonderful produce cooked beautifully. Tiramisu for desert was good but not exceptional, but does not come close to the best tiramisu I ever had in a hole in the wall in Rome. Lovely patient staff and a relaxed atmosphere! Highly recommend.

We went to Tropea on Friday 25th April and I have to say is a must-visit for Italian food lovers! It transports you to the sunny shores of southern Italy’s Calabrian coast with its cozy and inviting atmosphere. The service is top-notch - friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. They strike the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth, making you feel like a VIP.
The food is absolutely incredible! They have these amazing sharing plates that let you try a variety of flavours and textures. The Burrata is a must-try - it’s soft, buttery, and packed with fresh herbs, nuts, and strawberries. It’s like a party in your mouth!
The Green agnolotti filled with ricotta is another must-try. They make the pasta fresh and flavorful, and it’s a real standout on the menu.
The beef cheek ragu is slow-cooked to perfection - it’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious and super satisfying. It’s the perfect pairing with pasta or polenta.
And the sautéed chicken livers are a amazing. They’re packed with flavour and have a tender texture that really complements the other dishes.

Went to Tropea for the first time for my birthday and it was definitely the right choice! Love the atmosphere and the little detail on the menu. The staff also offer us an extra piece of brownie after spelling my name wrong haha. Excellent service. Looking forward to return!
